About Biotasmart
Biotasmart is a Spanish platform that interprets the microbiome for healthcare professionals: from gut and vaginal microbiome sequencing data, it turns the results into an interpreted report with food, prebiotic and probiotic recommendations that the professional applies in consultation.
What we do
We work with nutrition clinics, longevity centres, gynaecology and integrative medicine practices and sports performance centres. The professional prescribes the test, the patient collects the sample at home and the report reaches the professional within three to four weeks, ready to use in consultation.
We offer two gut microbiome tests, the Essential (16S sequencing) and the Advanced (shotgun metagenomics), and a vaginal microbiome test (shotgun metagenomics) that identifies the community state type and quantifies the species present. None of them is a diagnostic test: they describe the composition and function of the microbiome to guide decisions and do not replace a medical diagnosis.
We operate in Spain only.
How we work
Sequencing is done by a specialised laboratory. Our work starts afterwards: turning millions of DNA reads into something that can be applied in a consultation.
In-house bioinformatics
A pipeline that goes from raw sequence to the taxonomic and functional profile of each sample, compared against a reference cohort to know what is out of range and by how much.
Evidence-based recommendations
The food, prebiotic, probiotic and supplement databases behind the report are built from published literature and reviewed with clinical judgement before going into production.
One report for the professional, one for the patient
The professional sees the full detail with reference ranges; the patient receives a version they can understand and follow.
Saying what a test cannot know
A microbiome analysis does not diagnose SIBO, leaky gut or irritable bowel syndrome. We say so on the website, in the blog and in the report, because our customers are clinics and they notice exaggeration.
